Just 12 weeks to go until the Oxford Half Marathon

July 21, 2014 // Rachel Ellis

There are just 12 weeks to go until the Vitality Oxford Half Marathon returns for the fourth time on Sunday 12th October.

Runners of all shapes, sizes and abilities are being urged to sign up to one of the most popular races in Oxfordshire before general entries fill up. All other entries will then only be open via pre-allocated charity places.

Andrew Taylor Race Director of the Vitality OXFORDHALF said: “The Vitality OXFORDHALF is a fantastic half marathon and we are delighted to invite all types of runners to take up the challenge of running a half marathon.”

The race this year promises to be even bigger and better than before with the introduction of the Bannister Mile and slight route changes. The Bannister Mile has been introduced to the race in celebration of the 60th anniversary of when Sir Roger Bannister broke the first ever 4 minute mile at the famous Iffley Road track. The track will this year be part of the Vitality OXFORDHALF route where runners will get the unique opportunity to run in the footsteps of Sir Roger.

The course is a flat single-lap route which is perfect for beginners and for those who are looking to set a new PB. The route takes runners on a tour of the beautiful Oxford city centre and Oxfordshire countryside.

For those looking for an event that offers the chance to raise money for charity, look no further. The Vitality OXFORDHALF work with a variety of charities that runners can purchase places through. The lead charity for 2014 is Oxfam and Helen & Douglas House is the official local charity for 2014. Runners can choose to run on behalf of their own chosen charity if they wish.

Entries for the Vitality Oxford Half Marathon are filling up fast, but they are still open. To enter please go to our website at www.oxfordhalf.co.uk

Notes to editors:

· The Oxford Half Marathon is part of the Vitality Run Series, a new national series of eight leading UK road races including the Bath Half Marathon.

· The 4th staging of this popular event will be held on Sunday 12th October. Entries for last year’s race were sold out well before race day, and this looks likely to be repeated for this year’s event, on the basis of high demand for early entry sales to date, and an increased allocation of reserved charity places. So organisers are urging entrants to register quickly to secure their place.

· General public race entries open now at www.oxfordhalf.co.uk/entries
