Scott Reynolds, 37 from Aylesbury has taken on the challenge of running 2014 kilometres in one year to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust and he will be taking part in the Vitality Oxford Marathon as part of his long journey.

In July 2013, running helped Scott transform his life. Scott said: “I started running just over a year ago because I needed to get fit. I was overweight and something just clicked that I needed to exercise. Running over the last year has changed my life in so many ways, from weight loss to achieving things that I didn’t think possible both emotionally and physically. I can’t begin to tell you how incredible discovering running has been and I can’t imagine my life without it. If I can inspire others to give it a try I know they will reap the benefits.”

Scott works as a Client Services Manager for a London based agency, Greene & Co. The company are raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust this year and Scott decided to put his love for running to the test by challenging himself to complete his 2014km feat.

Scott commented: “When I saw that my company were raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust I just had to get involved. Running has become such a big part of my life that I wanted to use my passion to challenge myself for a really worthy cause”.

So far Scott has completed one marathon, six half marathons and three 10k events for his challenge and he plans on taking part in more organised events across the country. Training for one running event takes a lot of dedication. Scott regularly takes part in local park runs, attending more than 40 since 2013.

He added: “When in training I run five to six times a week and make sure that I do plenty of core exercises to keep on top of my form. I also make sure that I get plenty of sleep which is something that a lot of runners overlook for recovery.”

Scott’s feat alongside various fundraising activity including sponsored skydives and family activity days have helped Greene & Co raise over £30,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

The Vitality Oxford Half Marathon, which is now in its fourth year, will take place on Sunday 12th October. It is part of the Vitality Run Series, a new national series of eight leading UK road races including the Vitality Bath Half Marathon. The route takes runners past some of Oxford’s most famous historic points. The route is a single-lap relatively flat course, passing the Mini plant facility in Cowley and continuing past the track where Sir Roger Bannister broke the first ever four-minute mile at Iffley Road in May 1954.

Entries for the Oxford Half Marathon are still open and are priced at £34 or £32 for UKA affiliated runners.

  • The 4th staging of this popular event will be held on Sunday 12th October. Entries for last year’s race were sold out well before race day, and this looks likely to be repeated for this year’s event, on the basis of high demand for early entry sales to date, and an increased allocation of reserved charity places. So organisers are urging entrants to register quickly to secure their place.
