Travel and Access
The Vitality Oxford Half Marathon will be taking place on Sunday 9th October. This event is now in its 6th year, with 2016 being the second year of the fantastic new route. The race will start at 9.30am on Broad Street and takes runners past some of Oxford’s most iconic buildings. We’re expecting up to 10,000 runners on the day; many of whom will be fundraising for local and national charities.
Using the roads of Oxford for the race will cause some temporary changes to usual traffic routes for a limited period on Sunday 9th October. In planning the event, every effort is made to minimise the disruption caused due to these road closures. The route has been carefully considered and we are working in close consultation with Oxford City Council, Oxfordshire County Council, public transport providers and the emergency services. Advance Warning Signs will be installed two weeks prior indicating where roads are closed. Where closures occur, and where possible, diversions will be in place to ensure continued access for motorists and public transport.
Parking suspensions have been applied for on a number of roads (detailed here) and will be in place overnight on Saturday 8 October* until 2.30pm on Sunday 9th October.
Further information regarding these will be displayed on signage in the affected roads, in the 2 weeks prior to the event. *Please note parking suspensions will be in place from 2pm Saturday on Broad Street. Roads will begin to re-open from 11am once all runners have passed by, and when it is safe and feasible to do so. All roads, with the exception of the Broad Street and Radcliffe Square area, will be re-opened by 2.30pm.
Access for emergency services will be maintained at ALL times.
