IMPORTANT RUNNER INFORMATION
Race Start: The race starts at 09:30. The start line is located on Broad Street in Oxford City Centre. There will be stewards and signage to direct you from the Race Village on the day.
Race Number: Your race number is individual to you and cannot be re-sold or transferred. Please fill in the emergency details on the reverse of your number and remember to bring the safety pins provided in your race pack to secure it to your t-shirt. Your number must be clearly visible on the front of your t-shirt. Your race number is prefixed with a letter which corresponds to the start pen you have been allocated according to your predicted finish time and indicates which start pen to head to on race day. For more detailed information, click here.
Timing Chip: Your timing chip, which accurately measures your time, is attached to your race number. Please do not remove, bend, fold or cover the chip, as we will be unable to track your time.
Race Results: Results will be published on the Vitality Oxford Half Marathon website shortly after the race. If you provided your mobile number when you registered, you will also receive a text message with your official race time, shortly after you have finished the race.
Bag Drop: The bag drop is located in the Race Village. In your race pack you will receive a clear plastic kitbag, your race number and an adhesive sticker that matches your race number. Please affix the sticker to the front of your kitbag as indicated. Please also carefully tear the baggage tag from the bottom of your race number and attach this to the rope of the kitbag. Please use this kitbag for all your belongings on race day.
At the bottom of your race number is the reclaim tag – keep this attached to your race number throughout the run and have it ready to hand to the baggage staff in order to collect your bag quickly after the race.
Changing facilities will also be available in the Race Village next to the bag drop.
Meeting Points: It will be incredibly busy at the end of the race around the finish area, making it difficult to find your friends and family after the race. Please make sure you arrange a meeting point in advance for your friends and family away from the finish line. A suggestion is the coloured ‘Meeting Point’ flags that will be dotted around the Race Village in Oxford University Parks. View the Race Village map here.
Start Pens: Your race number shows the letter of the start pen that you have been assigned to, based on your predicted finish time. Please follow the signs to your relevant pen and make sure you enter the correct one. Each start pen entrance will have a marshal to help with any queries. Please note if you would like to run with a friend who has been allocated a different start pen, you may move backwards, but not forwards to a faster pen.
Pacers: Thank you to our pacers who will be wearing bright blue flag backpacks showing their target times on race day. We have two pacers for each start pen:
1hr30, 1hr45, 2hr00, 2hr15, 2hr30+
The pacers will be starting in separate pens, one at the front and one at the back. You will notice that your race number also features a letter which corresponds with the estimated finish time you indicated when you registered. Start pens range from A-I and will be marked clearly on your race number.
Mile Markers: Each mile will be clearly marked along the route.
Water Stations: There will be seven water stations on the course, these will be found at roughly 1.8, 3.2, 5, 7, 9, 10.5 and 12.2 miles. Water will be provided in 500ml sports cap bottles that are easy to drink from and reduce litter underfoot. Please use the bins provided around the course for disposing of your bottles.
Energy Stations: Lucozade Sport will be providing an isotonic energy drink at approximately 5 and 9 miles, shortly after the water stations. This will be supplied in 380ml sports bottles. Jelly Babies will be provided at approximately mile 7.
Toilets: There will be toilet facilities along the course at each of the water stations, as well as in the Race Village. Please note that due to space issues there are no toilets at the start/finish area on Broad Street. We recommend you use the facilities in the Race Village before moving to your relevant start pen.
UKA Measured: The course is measured and certified as accurate to 13.1 miles UKA standard.
Running Surface: With less than a mile to go, the route takes you around the glorious Radcliffe Square. Approximately 100 metres of this cobbled area will be suitably covered for your safety and comfort.
Course Marshals: We will have Course Marshals wearing bright green t-shirts positioned at regular intervals along the route, as well as at key junctions and turning points. All Course Marshals will be on radios and will be able to call for runner support.
First Aid: The main medical centre is located near the start/finish and an additional medical treatment point will be based within the Race Village. There will also be first aid at each water station with additional medical treatment points along the route should a runner face difficulty. In the event of an emergency, runners will be asked to move to the left side of the road to allow access for an emergency vehicle. Please follow all instructions given by the Course Marshals.
Headphones: While we understand that a lot of runners prefer to train with headphones, we encourage you not to use them on the day to ensure any medical alerts or marshals’ instructions can be heard.
Race Cut Off: The Vitality Oxford Half Marathon only has priority over the roads for 3½ hours. Runners predicted to finish after this time will be asked to move onto the pavement to continue.
Physiotherapy: A team of Physiotherapists will be onsite to give post-race assessment advice and injury management, including massage to help with any muscle strains and joint aches. This free service is open to all runners to help optimise recovery. You can find the team in the Race Village.
We advise that you do not run if you are unwell, have an injury or if you are not comfortable running at least 8 miles.
Prizes: We’ll be awarding prizes* to the top 3 male and top 3 female finishers, as well as the winner of the elite wheelchair race. Presentations will be made on the finish line stage at 11.15.
Running Club, University Challenge and Company Challenge winners will receive a £250 donation to a charity of their choice. Team prizes and category prizes will be based on chip times and will be awarded in the days after the race.
* Prizes may be in the form of vouchers. The organisers reserve the right to change the amounts and structures.
